Dental checkups are exceptionally important, and allow you to ensure that your teeth, mouth, and gums are healthy. During your appointment, Dr. Barkhordar can:

Identify Any Early Problems – the earlier problems are seen, the better it is for you in terms of solving the issue early on before further problems develop to where more treatment is needed. Deep cavities, unlike small cavities, require the more removal of your natural tooth structure, thus, weakening the tooth. A dental checkup will find any areas that need immediate work and get them resolved easily and safely.

Thorough Cleaning – our advanced, special dental tools and safe procedures will clean your teeth far more thoroughly than manually at home. Missing your cleaning appointments can result to more tartar and plaque buildup, creating deeper problems. Your teeth need to be thoroughly cleaned every six months for better overall dental health.

Prevent Serious Dental Problems – most serious dental problems are not visible to the eye and may not have symptoms you can feel. These problems tend to unexpectedly flare up, causing serious pain and discomfort and in some cases, may require emergency care. A routine checkup allows us to identify the problem early on so that we can tackle them to prevent more serious stage. This can save you from having a more extensive procedure in the future.

What to Expect in a Routine Dental Checkup

Our team of dental hygienists are friendly, patient, and skilled and conduct a cleaning for you in the first stage of your checkup. The cleaning process begins with the scraping of any tartar from your teeth by using a small metal tool. The hygienist will then floss or remove any debris, bacteria or small particles of food that may have been wedged in your teeth, which can be difficult to remove on your own at home. To make your teeth brighter and whiter, fluoride and special abrasive cleaners are applied to polish your teeth. Finally, the hygienist will remove any stains or any build-up of plaque.

After the cleaning, we then take x-rays of your teeth, gums and jaw to identify if there are any deeper issues that may not be visible to the eye such as: tooth decay, issues with wisdom teeth or any other orthodontic related problems. We cover you with a protective apron while taking the x-rays. The x-rays alone are safe and we only use advanced equipment that uses lowest levels of radiation possible. The x-ray images are digital and are immediately available to view. The image is retrieved by placing a small plastic piece that you bite down on.

After you x-rays have been taken, the last step in the process is an examination conducted by Dr. Barkhordar. Dr. Barkhordar is patient and a highly skilled dentist who cares and takes his time with all his patients to identify if there are any areas that need extra care or treatment. If he does come across any problem areas, he may advise treatment at our office or even ways to take care of the problem early on at home in order to improve your oral health. Dr. Barkhordar is able to check whether or not there are any high-resk categories in your teeth that may lead to cavities, in which case, he may advise you to have a dental sealant applied for your protection.

How Often Should I Have a Checkup?

The American Dental Association (ADA) strongly advise that everyone should have a full dental checkup every six months, regardless of the condition of your teeth. A checkup is the most effective way to protect the overall health of your teeth, gums and mouth and can detect issue areas early on before they turn serious or cause pain.

People that may need extra care and attention are typically advised to get checkups and cleanings more frequently.
