Do I Need Emergency Dental Care?
Emergency dental problems can occur, with no warning, requiring immediate assistance. Some of these problems include:
Damaged Dental Work – in some cases, a dental crown or filling can fall off in which it often exposes the root, causing severe pain and discomfort. You will need to come in immediately to repair damage and bring you relief quickly.
Damaged Tooth– we are ready to work with you on an emergency basis if you have a cracked or broken tooth or teeth that may have been caused from sports play, an accident, or any other situation. With immediate attention, it is possible to restore the tooth that could be lost, as well as replacing it in the mouth if need be. Timing is the key in these cases. We are ready to help your treatment at once.
Gum Pain– untreated gum disease can lead to serious pain or other related issues. In some cases, there can be something stuck in your gum line causing discomfort. You must come in immediately to restore the problem.
Toothache– there are a number of reasons for tooth aches including: decay, an exposed root or nerve, a cracked or broken tooth, filling, or crown. The pain causes discomfort and can affect your everyday life. We are here to take care of any issues you may be experiencing to prevent further damage.
What to Do If You Have a Dental Emergency
If a tooth has been knocked out – you can save the tooth, if possible, by managing the situation carefully and correctly. By holding the tooth by the crown and rinsing the root if it is dirty, as to prevent infection, can save the tooth. Avoid scrubbing or removing tissue. Store it in a cup of milk, or place it back in the tooth socket, if you can, until you see Dr. Barkhordar.
For chipped or broken teeth – it is recommended to rinse your mouth with water, and use a cold compress to numb the area which controls swelling.
There are other dental emergencies that may not be as serious but require the same amount of attention. A severe toothache can be a red flag or symptom for something bad going on. You will need to schedule an emergency dental appointment to get help right away. In the meantime, you can get some relief by rinsing your mouth with warm water, or flossing gently to remove food stuck in the tooth. If it is an infection, it must be taken care of right away.
