Our goal is to help everyone get the treatment they need with minimal discomfort and pain as possible. Since we practice sedation dentistry, we are able to conduct many procedures that reduces your consciousness and ease anxiety that you may feel before the procedure
What Is sedation Dentistry?
The biggest fear for most patients is the pain and discomfort they may feel during treatment. Our practice offers sedation dentistry so you can protect and maintain your dental health without going through any pain or discomfort. We use the appropriate amount of sedatives to reduce level of consciousness including full sedation, depending on the procedure. Whatever your procedure may be, whether you need to get fillings, a crown, gum or tooth restorations, we guarantee you will feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the entire procedure. Sedation can really change your feelings about dentistry as it allows nothing but relaxation during treatment where you do not have to worry about pain or discomfort.
Do I Need sedation Dentistry?
Everyone is different. Some have lower pain thresholds or some experience greater anxiety about dental procedures than others and sedation dentistry may be the solution you need. It is also intended for those who have a gag reflex that can disrupt treatment, highly sensitive teeth or need extensive dental work in one visit. There are those who fear needles and shots in which sedation dentistry can be beneficial. Come in for a visit and talk to Dr. Barkhordar where you can find out more about our sedation process to see if it is the solution you need. We fully check your dental as well as your medical history to find the perfect method to treat you and your dental problem.
Types of Sedation
There are various forms of sedation that we offer our patients at Downey Dental Arts. The type of sedation that is most appropriate depends on the type of procedure being done and the level of anxiety you may be feeling. A common type of sedation is nitrous oxide, an inhaled gas that is given to you by wearing a mask over your nose. You will be advised to inhale the gas which will help you relax your nerves. The gas wears off quickly and in most cases you are ok to drive after treatment.
Oral sedation is administered by taking a pill that makes you feel calm and drowsy. The pills are available in various strenghts and Dr. Barkhordar will administer the right amount for you that is most appropriate.
Minimal sedation– you will feel a great amount of relaxation and calmness but you are still awake during the process.
Moderate sedation– you will feel fatigued and extremely groggy and may not remember much about the procedure.
We also offer IV sedation (intravenous). This type of sedation will go into your vein directly and within seconds you will feel groggy. Longer dental procedures are frequently conducted with the help of IV sedation. The medication amount is carefully monitored and customized to work best for you and the procedure.
Deep sedation is appropriate for certain procedures. You will be almost, if not fully, asleep during the entire procedure. You will be in a sedated unconscious sleep and once you are awakened, you may not realize that the procedure is done.
